Four commemorative posters reflect the theme of social justice and change
Ffor the second year, USC has partnered with local nonprofit LA Commons to celebrate the African-American experience.
Four commemorative posters were unveiled last week at the California African American Museum reflecting the collective theme of social justice and change. The four art posters are titled “We are Change,” “We are Equal,” “Learn Love” and “Art+Growth”, reflect on current social issues and feature prominent public figures leading the fight to address them.
The 10 youth artists were led by lead artist Bijan Machen and mentored by USC students Daniel Kawah and Keviette Minor. The goal of the art project was to have the youth artists reflect and focus their art pieces on events occurring in their neighborhood and personal experiences, as well as interviewing people of various backgrounds around the USC community to gain a different perspective.
“This project helped us create unity, after all we are all very different,” said Josselin Fernandez, a youth artist who worked on the four-month-long project. “This gave us a chance to create equality and unity among us.”
