Working with our neighbors to build a strong community

USC Headstart opens in Lincoln Heights

USC School for Early Childhood Education (USC SECE) has served more than 5,000 neighborhood children from 4,600 families, and this year have expanded their services to the eastern part of Los Angeles.

“USC has been a long time partner of Griffin Elementary, and we are proud to open a new facility here to provide services that support a strong educational foundation for our children,” said Theda Douglas, Associate Senior Vice President for Government Partnerships and Programs at USC.

Griffin Elementary, located in Lincoln Heights, has a diverse student body of 550 and educates Kindergarten to Fifth graders.

School principal Leonel Angulo, eager to open this new element at his campus, worked closely with LAUSD and USC to get it off the ground as quickly as possible, “We are very excited about to add pre-K to our school curriculum and the ability to on board more families early on. The SECE educational services both for the children and their parents will be incredibly valuable.”

In addition to the school readiness framework, SECE also offers health, nutritional and parenting courses for enrolled families.
