EAST LOS ANGELES – For Dr. Giselle Gallanto, taking the fear out of going to the dentist is something she works to do every day with children and today she is giving a dental exam to 4-year-old Daniel Lopez.

Daniel rocks some sweet shades to make the bright lights bearable.

“We really are creating a positive experience for them so that they can take that with them in the future and really appreciate their dental care, their oral health,” said Dr. Gallanto.

What makes this exam, and the services at the QueensCare mobile dental clinic trailer in East LA different, is that everything is free.

“We can prepare him now for his future and not have to have costly expenses later on,” says Daniel’s great grandmother Rachel Vermillion.

While she is currently a practicing dentist, Dr. Gallanto represents University of Southern California’s Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry. The program pulls third and fourth year dental students from classes to help service over 2,000 people the clinic sees each year.

There is no question that increasing healthcare costs, especially dental, make services a privilege for anyone. The funds for this program were originally made possible from the sale of Queen of Angels Hospital – now called Hollywood Presbyterian.

“Dental care is not something that everybody can afford so to be able to treat the kids comprehensively without any sort of restraint of any financial burden is pretty incredible and amazing,” said Dr. Gallanto.

The clinic is currently located at Adventist Health White Memorial Medical Center and will be there until August making walk-ins convenient for the community and everyone ages 0-18 can be seen. Making a bright, healthy smile possible for all walks of life.
