Our Communities

In this picture, from left, Estrellita Chinchilla, Febe Dela Pena and her mother, Mysie Dela Pena, and Francisco Ulloa participate in the USC-Sea Grant Parent-Child Education Program at Expo Center. The program, funded in part by a USC Neighborhood Outreach grant, aims to make basic science concepts approachable and fun for parents and children together, in addition to developing a sense of environmental stewardship, independent thinking and creative expression through positive action. USC Neighborhood Outreach

USC Neighborhood Outreach exists for the sole purpose of enhancing the quality of life in the neighborhoods surrounding the University Park and Health Sciences campuses. Gifts from USC faculty, staff and other donors through the annual USC Good Neighbors Campaign are the primary source of USC Neighborhood Outreach funding.

USC Neighborhood Outreach considers grant applications from USC employees, academic units and other university departments working in partnership with community-based, tax-exempt organizations operating in the neighborhoods surrounding the University Park and Health Sciences campuses. Applying for USC Neighborhood Outreach grants is a competitive process, and not all proposals can be funded, including continuation applications for programs that have received funding in the past.

Since issuing its first request for proposals in January 1995, USC Neighborhood Outreach has funded more than 459 programs with annual budgets ranging from $3,000 to $55,000.
